Pathfinders (a youth service organization sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church for boys and girls) from around the world recently went to Gillette, Wyoming, United States, for an international Camporee. Members of the CRS team, Board members, and others participated in sharing a pin with a variation of the wording on the official Camporee logo, “BELIEVE THE PROMISE,” in Unified English Braille (UEB).
If you count the dots on the pin, it might look like information is missing, but it’s not! From left to right of this image, here are what the dots mean:
- Three single vertical dots: A signal that what follows is all in capital letters.
- Two verticle dots: A contraction for the first two letters in BELIEVE: BE.
- Three vertical dots: L.
- Two dots angled toward the right: I.
- Two dots angled toward the left: E.
- Four dots shaped like a letter L: V.
- Two dots angled toward the left: E.
- After the space, a four-dot formation: THE.
- After the space, the letters that follow form the word PROMISE.
- The two vertical dots that complete the line also indicate the end of the all-capital letters UEB phrase.
