Ray McAllister is passionate about his relationship with God. He enjoys spending time in prayer and Bible study, writing poetry, and serving others. In August 2010, he received a Ph.D. in Hebrew Scriptures. McAllister is totally blind, the first blind person to receive a doctorate from Andrews University's seminary, and is the first totally blind person in the world to receive a doctorate in Hebrew Scriptures. He teaches distance education religion classes for Andrews University. In July 2016, McAllister and two other visually impaired biblical scholars received the Jacob Bolotin Award from the National Federation of the Blind for their work making biblical language materials accessible to the blind. In his 2018 book, The Blind Dream-Chaser, McAllister tells his story and gives the reader a vision for falling in love with God and chasing all dreams, however impossible they may seem.
